Phew! It’s been a mad few weeks, and I’ve barely stopped to breathe. My big sister got married a couple of weeks ago, and it was just the best, best day. But it meant blog stuff took a backseat to life stuff and I accidentally took a fortnight off. Whoops. I’m back now though, with tons of stuff I want to share with you.
First of all is my fancypants new juicer! I’ve been trying to be a bit healthier this year, you know. But not in a douchey way. Lots more green stuff on my plate, less processed food and cutting down on sugary drinks. I’ve been pondering making my own juices for a while now, as unless you want to spend a million pounds (definitely not exaggerating there), most juices are packed with sugar and additives. So I was excited to try the Panasonic Slow Juicer, which they sent me to review.
This juicer is pretty damn cool. It’s super sleek, and doesn’t take up loads of space in my kitchen. It’s also really quiet, so when I’m getting up at 5am, I can still make my freshly squeezed orange juice without waking up the rest of the house! Full disclosure: I literally never get up at 5am. But maybe I’ll start! (I won’t.)
Being a slow juicer doesn’t mean that it takes a long time – it’s actually a good thing. It works its way through the fruit to squeeze out as much as possible, leaving the driest, smallest amount of pulp behind. So yes, while much of the goodness in fruit is in the pulp, this preserves as much as possible and because it doesn’t have a fast, hot motor, there’s less risk of damaging the vitamins and whatnot in the fruit before it gets to you. So far, I’ve only used it to make fruit juice (mostly orange) but I’m excited to try out all of its features. It even has a frozen attachment, so you can create frozen yogurts and sorbets by using frozen fruit, and in this weather, that’s a definite must. Apparently it can even make jelly and soup!
To be completely honest, I wasn’t sure how much I’d use this. But having it so close at hand is a huge incentive to get more fruit into my diet, and it’s also quite handy as a blender for some items, too. We’re not exactly in soup weather right now, but when it gets colder I’ll be getting my carrot and coriander on, for sure.
I'm still experimenting with recipes but if you have a juicer, here are a few recipes from the Panasonic site:
- Kiwi and Banana Juice
- Spinach & Banana Juice
- Lemon Lime Juice
- Blackberry Pear Juice
- Zesty Pineapple Juice
- Raspberry Dream Juice
- Berry Cool Frozen Treat
I was kindly sent the Panasonic Slow Juicer to review by ComeRound. All opinions are as always my own.
