The Beauty Of Imperfection

Our eyes and brains are wired for symmetry, which is a kind of perfection. We are attracted, at a basic level, to harmony and balance. But as we grow, we find the asymmetrical, the one-offs, the imperfections beautiful too. Hooray for that!

Yes, yes, OK, this is beautiful.

And so is Adrian Brody, with his prominent nose and thin face.

  • Raw diamonds are far more beautiful to me than perfect stones. That's a personal taste, but I find perfectly polished stones less intriguing.

Love this rough, raw diamond and irregular setting. Source.

  • Smooth shiny new boots are beautiful. And so are these, to my eye. They've lived!

  • My boy King was born nine years ago, a feral in a litter of six ferals. We got them all fixed and had their ears clipped, so Animal Services wouldn't pick them up. We didn't know then that he'd become a sweetie-boy house cat. I love his funny ears, he's beautiful.

My handsome little man, King.

I'd add to the list of imperfect beauty: curly, crazy hair; crooked teeth, birthmarks and moles, high foreheads, weathered hands, and majestic noses. There's beauty everywhere. Are you drawn to the imperfections?

Stay fabulous,
