Beauty is Beautiful, Then and Now

What makes a face undeniably beautiful? In real life, I think beauty isn't defined by our features but by our spirit and deeds. But there are faces that are universally "beautiful", according to research. Studies suggest our brains are wired to see symmetry as beauty. Halle Berry and Denzel Washington are often cited as examples of "beautiful" faces for that reason.

Artist and photographer George Chamoun played with photos of classically beautiful faces past and present. Chamoun created Iconatomy , "an investigation in the beauty ideals of the movie world. These are collages of two movie stars or icons from two different eras, merged together to form one face, one ideal image."

I found the images fascinating - what makes a face traditionally beautiful seems to transcend decades.

The black and white is Marilyn Monroe, and the color portion is Scarlett Johansson.

Elizabeth Taylor and Angelina Jolie.

I saw this one coming a mile away! Cary Grant and George Clooney.

What makes a face beautiful to you? See more of Chamoun's work and an interview here. (He has a very nice face, too!) And have a truly beautiful day. xox
